The Assessing Department is responsible for assessing all Real and Personal Property located within the Grant
Township. The task of assessing requires the maintenance of records on each parcel of property.
Assessments are reviewed each year for condition on December 31st. Assessment Change Notices are mailed at
the end of February. Board of Review meeting times and dates are listed on change notices. Board of
Review meets on Tuesday following first Monday in March, on Tuesday following 3rd Monday in July and Tuesday
following 2nd Monday in December. July and December Board of Review meetings are not open for assessment
appeals. They are for corrections of errors or appeals for Poverty Exemption, Principle Residence
Exemption and Agricultural Exemptions only.
The Assessor is always willing to come out and complete a site review of your property if you feel you are
over assessed.
Property Transfer Affidavits: (Download the Application in Permits & Applications)
Property Transfer Affidavits must to be received by this office within 45 days of property transfer.
Homestead Affidavits: (Download the Application)
Homestead Affidavits are required for Exemption of the 18 Mill School Tax that is part of the tax bill.
Filing Deadline is May 1st of the calendar year. The property listed MUST BE THE PRIMARY RESIDENCE, OWNED and
OCCUPIED by the individual(s) requesting the exemption.
Lot Split Applications: (not available online)
Requests for Lot Split Application Packets should be initially directed to this department. Applications are also
returned to this department for pre-split review. This department then forwards the completed applications to
all other Township Departments for their review and comments. Only after an application meets all Township
ordinances and requirements is it then sent to St. Clair County Lands & Graphic's Department to be
finalized.
